I love food, but I also value living a healthy lifestyle, so I make it my mission to come up with nutritious dishes that can be enjoyed – even when you’re trying to make better choices in your tell people that just because something is healthy doesn’t mean it can’t also be delicious!  Today I will share a simple, hearty, mouth-watering turkey meatloaf recipe that’s heart-healthy and Keto-friendly.

Meatloaf is a classic main dish with great potential for flavor and healthy living. My recipe puts a new spin on the traditional favorite and is packed with exciting Mediterranean flare. You’ll love how basil, parsley, and Aleppo pepper (or black pepper, if preferred) bring out the juiciness of the ground turkey. And because we swap out breadcrumbs for the walnut meal, you’ll get an even meatier, more protein-packed main dish. Let’s dig in!

Why Turkey Meatloaf?

I disagree with the old saying that nothing broken should be left alone, particularly when cooking. Although classic meatloaf made with ground beef is spectacular, ground turkey is also an exceptional choice, especially when maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Ground turkey contains lower levels of unhealthy saturated fats, making it much better for your heart and cholesterol. Additionally, it boasts a rich and flavorful taste, making for a delightful meatloaf.

.What Should I Serve with Meatloaf?

When it comes to serving side dishes with turkey meatloaf, the possibilities are endless. It is an incredibly versatile main dish that pairs well with many extraordinary sides. If you prefer sticking to traditional options, I recommend preparing a batch of mashed potatoes, or if you are watching your starch intake, you can go for mashed cauliflower instead. Oven-roasted vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, or green beans also make for excellent accompaniments. Whether mashed, roasted, or baked, sweet potatoes are also a delicious choice that complements the savory flavors of the meatloaf.

Recipe Tips & Suggestions

Can Turkey Meatloaf Be Frozen?

Yes! I understand how busy life can get, so I love introducing recipes that can be prepared and frozen for a fast meal later. Could you wrap the meatloaf in plastic wrap and place it in a sealed, freezer-safe container? From here, it should keep for 2-3 months. If you have eaten some turkey loaves and want to save the leftovers in the fridge, it will be safe to reheat and eat for 4-5 days.

Rana’s Notes!

Use a reliable cooking thermometer to ensure your turkey meatloaf is safe and moist. Ensure it's calibrated, then check the temperature reading at the end of cooking time. For safety, cook to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit – don't go beyond this point, or it will overcook and lose moisture
