I am excited to show you how easy it is to make a mouthwatering sandwich filled with tender chicken strips, tangy pickles, and a flavorful tomato herb salad; all wrapped up in warm pita bread spread with creamy hummus.

Where can I even begin with this chicken wrap with hummus recipe? Packed with flavor and fresh ingredients, this wrap is traditionally enveloped in pita bread, although a flour tortilla can be an alternative. Mediterranean chicken wraps are satisfying and healthy chicken wrap recipes due to lean chicken chunks and crisp vegetables. Moreover, this chicken wrap recipe is simple and delicious, perfect for a quick, leisurely lunch, a relaxed brunch, or entertaining guests.

The most time-consuming part of this homemade chicken wrap is allowing the chicken to marinate. However, it’s a crucial step. The yogurt, lemon juice, and vinegar marinade significantly enhance the wrap’s taste, tenderness, and moisture. Despite the marination time, my chicken wrap recipes are well worth the wait.

Mediterranean Chicken Wrap Recipe Ingredients:

For the Chicken Marinade:

  • Greek yogurt adds creaminess and tangy to the marinade, enhancing the overall flavor.
  • Garlic: Garlic contributes a pungent and savory taste, infusing the chicken with aromatic goodness.
  • Olive Oil (preferably extra virgin): Olive oil provides a rich, fruity flavor with a hint of peppery notes, elevating the marinade’s taste.
  • Lemon Juice and Vinegar: These acidic elements bring brightness and zesty tanginess to the marinade, enhancing the overall Mediterranean flavor profile.
  • Dried Greek Oregano, Salt, and Black Pepper: These seasonings combine to create a harmonious blend of earthy, herbal, and slightly spicy notes, giving the chicken a Mediterranean taste.
  • Chicken Breasts: Chicken breasts serve as the protein base, absorbing all the delightful flavors from the marinade.

For the Salad:

  • Tomatoes, English Cucumber, and Red Onion: These fresh vegetables provide a vibrant and juicy contrast to the chicken, adding a crisp texture and a mild, sweet-savory flavor.
  • Parsley and Fresh Dill: These aromatic herbs infuse the salad with freshness, adding earthy and slightly peppery notes.
  • Olive Oil, Lemon Juice, and Pomegranate Molasses (or Balsamic): The dressing combines the richness of olive oil, the zesty acidity of lemon juice, and the sweet-tart complexity of pomegranate molasses (or balsamic, if preferred). This trio offers a harmonious blend of flavors, enhancing the overall taste of the salad.

Make This Recipe Yours

This chicken wrap recipe is easily adaptable. You can swap out the chicken for roasted vegetables like zucchini or eggplant, grilled steak, or tofu for a protein-rich option. This chicken wrap recipe is versatile and flexible for your taste buds.

For the spread, I prefer homemade Hummus. However, you can also use other spreads like tzatziki sauce or spicy mayo and tahini. Most chicken wrap recipes can’t go wrong with Hummus or yogurt sauce.

You can’t have the best chicken wrap recipe without good bread, RIGHT? For the bread, I love using flat Greek pita bread. However, flour tortillas and lavash bread are also great options.

What To Serve With The Chicken Wrap

When I whip up this creamy Mediterranean chicken wrap, I love to pair it with crispy homemade French fries. A refreshing Greek or Fattoush salad on the side just adds to the joy! And if you’re feeling a tad adventurous, a baby spinach salad with lentils hits the spot. Trust me, this combo feels like a warm hug in meal form!

Recipe Tips & Suggestions

Few Tips

If you like your sandwich, warm it all around, brush lightly with olive oil, put on a panini machine if you have one, or on a skillet, and turn around until it's slightly caramelized and warm.

Cutting the chicken breast horizontally will help cook the chicken more evenly and faster!

Don't pre-make those wraps ahead of time. It's best to wait until you're ready to eat. However, prepare the salad without adding the lemon and olive oil until you're ready to assemble.

This is a great wrap. Also, to use any leftover rotisserie chicken, you might have to remove the bone, shred the chicken meat, and use it in the wrap!

Rana’s Notes!

What To Do If Your Wrap Breaks
Warm the Bread: Warming your pita or tortilla makes it more pliable. Just a few seconds in a microwave or a minute on a hot griddle can make all the difference
Don't Overfill: It can be tempting to load up your wrap with all your favorite ingredients, but too much filling can make the wrap break. Aim for a balanced ratio of ingredients to wrap.
Layer Strategically: Place softer ingredients like hummus or sauces at the bottom to act as a cushion for more solid elements like chicken or vegetables.
Roll Carefully: When you're rolling your wrap, make sure to tuck in the sides and roll as tightly as possible without squeezing the ingredients out.
Emergency Fix: In a pinch, if your wrap does break, you can always turn it into a delightful and still-delicious salad bowl!
