Welcome to the delicious world of homemade granola! In today’s post, we’re sharing our enticing Maple Pecan Granola recipe, a vegan treat that’s not just yummy but also super simple to prepare. Let’s dive in!

My daughter always asked me why we didn’t make pecan granola! When I started the granola company, we had 12 flavors, none of which were pecan. While I love pecans, I never created a pecan granola. I’m not quite sure why! It is delicious.

Loving what you do for work can be incredibly satisfying. But sometimes, it can also make what was once special boring and repetitive. I have made so much granola in my life that I sometimes feel like I don’t want to see another piece of oat again! Many years after starting my granola company, my daughter was craving some. While she was visiting, I decided to surprise her and make maple pecan granola to take home.

Maple Pecan Granola: Ingredient Profile

  • Gluten-Free Oats: The foundation of your granola, these oats offer a hearty texture and are a great source of fiber. Their neutral flavor makes them perfect for absorbing the sweetness of the maple syrup.
  • Maple Syrup: The star sweetener of this recipe, maple syrup provides a natural and distinctively rich sweetness that pairs wonderfully with the nuts and oats.
  • Olive Oil: A healthier fat option, olive oil helps achieve a crispy texture while adding a subtle, savory depth to the granola, balancing the sweetness.
  • Chopped Pecans: These add a delightful crunch and nutty flavor, enriching the granola’s texture and taste profile. Pecans are also a great source of healthy fats and vitamins.
  • Pumpkin Seeds & Hemp Seeds: These seeds are nutritional powerhouses, offering a boost of protein, omega-3s, and minerals. They contribute a pleasant bite and a slightly nutty, earthy flavor.
  • Unsweetened Coconut: Adds a tropical twist with its chewy texture and mild, sweet flavor. It’s also great for adding some variety to the granola crunch.
  • Sea Salt: A pinch of sea salt is crucial in any sweet recipe. It enhances the overall flavor profile, highlighting the ingredients’ sweetness and nuttiness.

Maple Pecan Granola: Tips and FAQs

Is Granola Vegan?
Granola is often vegan, but inspecting the ingredients for non-vegan items like butter, honey, or certain types of chocolate chips is essential. For peace of mind, homemade granola is the way to go. This maple pecan granola recipe is entirely vegan and incredibly easy to whip up.

Can You Freeze Pecan Granola?
Absolutely! Granola’s versatility extends to its storage. You can freeze it in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Remember to label the container with the date to keep track of freshness. When ready to enjoy it, simply defrost it overnight on your counter for a crunchy, delicious breakfast or snack.

Are All Oats Gluten-Free?
While oats are naturally gluten-free, cross-contamination with gluten-containing grains can occur during processing. For those with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease, it’s crucial to choose oats that are certified gluten-free. This ensures they’ve been processed in a gluten-free environment, keeping your granola safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Granola Variations

  • Oat Varieties – Feel free to choose between standard or gluten-free oats based on your dietary preferences.
  • Personalized Extras – Enhance your granola with your favorite ingredients. Feel free to experiment with various mix-ins like dried cranberries, apple chunks, raisins, assorted nuts, chocolate chips, or even a spoonful of peanut butter.
  • Taste Profiles – Infuse your granola with delightful flavors such as cinnamon, vanilla, brown sugar, or maple syrup. If you fancy butter, simply melt and combine it with maple syrup before adding it to your mix.
  • Choice of Oil – Opt for olive or coconut oil when preparing your granola. Both offer unique flavor profiles and health benefits.

Rana’s Notes!

If you prefer a sweeter granola, you could drizzle a bit of agave nectar or honey (if not strictly vegan) onto the granola just before it finishes baking. For a protein-packed version, try adding some chia seeds or flaxseeds.
Storing Your Granola: Proper storage is key to maintaining the freshness and crunch of your granola. Once it's completely cooled, transfer your granola to an airtight container or a sealed mason jar. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Properly stored, homemade granola can last for up to 2 weeks at room temperature. For longer storage, you can freeze granola for up to 3 months.
